Fossils

This formation contains the ostracods Echinocypris-Tuberocypris-Pseudoeucypris assemblage, the charophytes Obtusochara jianglingensis-Gyrogona qianjiangica asDsemblage, and the sporopollen Ephedripites-Meliaceoidites assemblage. It is similar to the Dacangfang Fm in the Nanyang basin, the Fourth Member of the Shahejie Fm in the Bohai Bay area and the Sanduo Fm and Dainan Fm in Jiangsu. This formation is approximately equivalent to the Fangjiahe Fm and Bailoukou Fm at the surface.

Age

The isotopic age is 54.7 Ma.Its age was previously considered to be middle Eocene (Zheng JiaJian et al., 1999). However, new study suggests that its age should be the late Early Eocene to early Middle Eocene (Wang et al., 2019), which Wang, Y.Q., et al. (2019, Paleogene Integr. Strat. Timescale China; Sci. China: Earth Sci., 62) mid-Ypresian to early Lutetian
